Exclusive : Who throws the longest javelin in the Olympics in 2024?

India’s javelin sensation, Neeraj Chopra, ignited his Paris Olympics 2024 campaign with an explosive performance, securing his place in the final of the men’s javelin throw with his very first attempt on August 6. As he launched the qualifying round for Group B, Chopra set a commanding standard with a colossal throw of 89.34 meters. This impressive mark, well beyond the automatic qualification threshold of 84 meters, ensured he did not need a second attempt.

In the same qualification round, Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem also clinched an automatic spot in the final with a throw of 86.59 meters, placing him fourth in the qualification standings. Former world champion Anderson Peters achieved the second-longest throw of the day with an impressive 88.63 meters on his initial attempt. Germany’s Julian Weber followed closely with a throw of 87.76 meters, marking the third-longest throw of the round. Kenya’s Julius Yego rounded out the top five with a best throw of 85.97 meters.

Out of the 12 athletes advancing to the final, only Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott, and Finland’s Oliver Helander and Lassi Etalatalo did not automatically qualify with a throw of 84 meters or more. Neeraj Chopra’s remarkable throw is a promising indicator of his potential success in the final on August 8, as he aims to defend his Olympic title and possibly surpass the elusive 90-meter mark.

The men’s javelin throw final at the Paris Olympics will be held on August 8 at 11:45 PM IST. Neeraj Chopra’s qualification throw measured 89.34 meters. For live coverage in India, the event will be broadcasted on Sports 18, and Jio Cinema will provide live streaming of the competition.
