The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘orange’ alert for heavy rainfall today (August 7) across ten states: Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, and Meghalaya.

In Delhi, a ‘yellow’ alert has been issued, indicating light to moderate rain over the next two days.
In Himachal Pradesh, the IMD has issued an ‘orange’ alert for very heavy rainfall in ten districts, along with a moderate flash flood warning in some areas over the next 24 hours. The districts expected to experience intense rainfall include Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan, and Una. Flash flood risks are anticipated in Kangra, Sirmaur, Chamba, Shimla, Kullu, Kinnaur, and Mandi. Residents and travelers are advised to stay alert and follow safety guidelines due to potential disruptions and flooding.
For northwest India, the IMD forecasts light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan. Scattered to fairly widespread rain is expected in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and the Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi region. Substantial rainfall is anticipated in West Rajasthan on August 6, in Himachal Pradesh on August 7 and 10, in West Uttar Pradesh on August 7, and in Uttarakhand on August 6, 7, 9, and 10.
In western and central India, the IMD predicts light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning in Konkan, Goa, and Gujarat throughout the week. Heavy rainfall is expected in isolated areas of West Madhya Pradesh on August 7 and 8, East Madhya Pradesh from August 6 to 8, Chhattisgarh on August 6 and 7, Konkan and Goa from August 7 to 11, Madhya Maharashtra from August 6 to 12, and the Gujarat region on August 8 and 9.
In eastern and northeastern India, heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast for isolated areas in Assam and Meghalaya from August 6 to 12. Heavy rain is also expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from August 6 to 10, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on August 6, and Odisha and Bihar on August 6.
